7th December 2023 at 1:38 pmCongratulations on your successful concert at St John’s Smith Square. I would like to thank the creative and teaching team and the young musicians in the choir, especially the “bigs” whose voices added dimension and emotional depth to the fantastic Libera sound, for a very enjoyable evening.
Many of us who had been following the development of this choir would be pleased to see experienced soloists have become valuable mentors of younger boys and younger boys have grown into confident singers. The solo parts in “In the Bleak Midwinter”, “Kizuna” (my favourite piece!), “Veni, Veni, Emmanuel”, “From a Distance” and “Sing Lullaby, the Infant King” were among the most notable performances. But a very special mention must go to the lead singer in “O Beata”. His voice has matured and mellowed to a lower range and contrasted with the sound of the choir in that piece – the soloist calling and the choir responding – and created a sincere and moving dialogue. The lead singer’s ability to tell the story and to communicate emotions made this performance a highlight of the evening. He sang from his heart and I would love to listen to him in his new voice in future concerts.
The evening was a memorable one. I wish every performer enjoyed making music in each other’s company as much as we in the audience had enjoyed their music. I look forward to coming to another concert very soon in 2024.
