  1. In dulci jubilo

    In dulci jubilo
    Now sing with hearts aglow
Our delight and pleasure lies in praesepio
like sunshine is our treasure, Matris in gremio
    Alpha es et O

    O Jesu parvule
    For thee I long alway
Comfort my heart’s blindness, O puer optime
With all thy loving kindness, O principes gloriae
    Trahe me post te

    O patris caritas
    O nati lenitas
Deeply were we stained, per nostra crimina
But thou for us hast gained, coelorum gaudia
    O that we were there

    Ubi sunt gaudia
    in any place but there
There are angels singing, in nova cantica
and there the bells are ringing, in Regis curia
    O that we were there

  2. Walking in the air

    We’re walking in the air
We’re floating in the moonlit sky
The people far below are sleeping as we fly

    I’m holding very tight
I’m riding in the midnight blue
I’m finding I can fly so high above with you

On across the world the villages go by like dreams
The rivers and the hills, the forests and the streams

Children gaze open mouthed taken by surprise
Nobody down below believes their eyes

We’re surfing in the air, we’re swimming in the frozen sky
We’re drifting over icy mountains floating by

Suddenly swooping low on an ocean deep
Rousing up a mighty monster from his sleep

    We’re walking in the air
We’re dancing in the midnight sky
And everyone who sees us greets us as we fly

  3. Ding dong merrily on high

    Ding dong merrily on high
In heaven the bells are ringing
    Ding dong verily the sky
    Is riven with angels singing
    Gloria, Hosanna in excelsis

    Even so here below, below
    Let steeple bells be swungen
    And ‘Io, io, io!’
    By priest and people sungen
    Gloria, Hosanna in excelsis

    Pray you, dutifully prime
    Your matin chime, ye ringers
    May you beautifully rhyme
    Your evetime song, ye singers
    Gloria, Hosanna in excelsis

  4. In the bleak mid-winter

    In the bleak mid-winter
    Frosty wind made moan
    Earth stood hard as iron
    Water like a stone
Snow had fallen, snow on snow,
    Snow on snow
In the bleak mid-winter – long ago

    Heaven cannot hold Him
    Nor earth sustain
Heaven and earth shall flee away
    When He comes to reign
    In the bleak mid-winter
    A stable-place sufficed
The Lord God Almighty – Jesus Christ

    Enough for him, whom cherubim
    Worship night and day
    A breastful of milk
    And a mangerful of hay
Enough for him, whom angels fall down before
The ox and ass and camel which adore

    What can I give Him
    Poor as I am?
    If I were a shepherd
    I would bring a lamb
If I were a wise man
    I would do my part
Yet what I can I give Him – give my heart

  5. Noël nouvelet

    Noël nouvelet, Noël chantons ici
Devotes gens, crions a Dieu merci
Chantons Noël pour le Roi nouvelet
    Noël nouvelet, Noël chantons ici.

Waking from my sleep a vision came to me
For before my eyes there stood a flowering tree
Where on a bright red rosebud I did see
Noël nouvelet, a new Noel sing we.

How my heart did glow with inward joy divine
For with rays of glory did the rosebud shine
As when the sun doth blaze on break of day
This Noel sing we a Noël nouvelet

So, upon my bed I saw these wonders all
Dreaming of a child, an infant child so small
Jesus of Nazereth called a King to be
Noel nouvellet, a new Noel sing we

Noël nouvelet, sing we a new Noel
Thank we now our God, and of His goodness tell
Sing we Noel to greet the new born King
Noël nouvelet, a new Noel we sing

    Noël nouvelet, Noël chantons ici

  6. Once in royal David’s city

    Once in royal David’s city
    stood a lowly cattle shed
where a mother laid her baby
in a manger for his bed
    Mary was that Mother mild
    Jesus Christ her little child

He came down to earth from heaven
who is God and Lord of all
and his shelter was a stable
and his cradle was a stall
with the poor and mean and lowly
lived on earth our Saviour holy

And our eyes at last shall see him
    through his own redeeming love
for that child so dear and gentle
is our Lord in heaven above
and he leads his children on
to the place where he is gone

Not in that poor lowly stable
    with the oxen standing by
we shall see him but in heaven,
set at God’s right hand on high
where like stars his children crowned
all in white shall wait around

  7. I saw three ships

I saw three ships come sailing in…

And what was in those ships all three…

Our Saviour Christ and His Lady…

Pray, wither sailed those ships all three…

    O, they sailed into Bethlehem…

And all the bells on earth shall ring…

And all the angels in heaven shall sing…

And all the souls on earth shall sing…

Then let us all rejoice amain…
On Christmas Day in the morning

  8. What child is this

What child is this who laid to rest
    on Mary’s lap is sleeping
whom angels greet with anthems sweet
    while shepherds watch are keeping

This, this is Christ the King
whom shepherds worship and angels sing
Haste, haste to bring him praise
the babe the son of Mary

So bring him incense gold and myrrh
all tongues and peoples own him
the King of kings salvation brings
    let every heart enthrone him

Raise, raise your song on high
    while Mary sings a lullaby
Joy, Joy for Christ is born
the babe the son of Mary

  9. Sing lullaby (The infant King)

    Sing lullaby
    Lullaby baby, now reclining
    Sing lullaby
Hush, do not wake the Infant King
Angels are watching, stars are shining
Over the place where he is lying
    Sing lullaby

    Sing lullaby
    Lullaby baby, now a-sleeping
    Sing lullaby
Hush, do not wake the Infant King
Soon will come sorrow with the morning
Soon will come bitter grief and weeping
    Sing lullaby

    Sing lullaby
    Lullaby baby, now a-dozing
    Sing lullaby
Hush, do not wake the Infant King
Soon comes the cross, the nails, the piercing
Then in the grave at last reposing
    Sing lullaby

    Sing lullaby
    Lullaby! is the babe a-waking?
    Sing lullaby
Hush, do not wake the Infant King
    Dreaming of Easter, gladsome morning
    Conquering death, its bondage breaking
    Sing lullaby

  10. Carol of the bells

    Hark how the bells
    sweet silver bells
    all seem to say
    throw cares away

    Christmas is here
    bringing good cheer
    to young and old
    meek and the bold

    Ding dong ding dong
    that is their song
    With joyful ring
    all carolling

    One seems to hear
    words of good cheer
    from everywhere
    filling the air

    Oh how they pound
    raising the sound
    o’er hill and dale
    telling their tale

    Gloria, in excelsis Deo
    Gloria

    Gaily they ring
    while people sing
    songs of good cheer
    Christmas is here

    Merry, merry, merry, merry Christmas
    On on they send
    on without end
their joyful tone to every home

    Ding dong ding dong
    That is their song

  11. Wexford carol

Good people all this Christmas time
consider well and bear in mind
what our good God for us has done
    in sending his beloved son

With Mary holy we should pray
to God with love this Christmas Day
    In Bethlehem upon that morn
there was a blessed Messiah born

    Near Bethlehem did shepherds keep
their flocks of lambs and feeding sheep
to whom God’s angels did appear
which put the shepherds in great fear

‘Prepare and go’ the angels said
‘to Bethlehem – be not afraid
for there you’ll find this happy morn
a princely babe, sweet Jesus born ‘

    Ó, tagaig’ uile is adhraigí
An leanbh cneasta sa chró ‘na luí
Is cuimhnígí ar ghrá an Rí
A thug dár saoradh anocht an Naí.

S’A Mhuire Mháthair i bParas Dé
    Ar chlann bhocht Eabha
    Guí anois go séimh
Is doras an chró ná dún go deo
G n-adhraím feasta Mac Rí na hÓighe

With thankful heart and joyful mind
the shepherds went the babe to find
and as God’s angel had foretold
they did our Saviour Christ behold

Within a manger he was laid
and by his side the virgin maid
attending on the Lord of life
who came on earth to end all strife

  12. O little town of Bethlehem

    O little town of Bethlehem
How still we see thee lie
Above thy deep and dreamless sleep
    The silent stars go by
Yet in thy dark streets shineth
    The everlasting light
The hopes and fears of all the years
    Are met in thee tonight

    How silently, how silently
    The wondrous gift is given
So God imparts to human hearts
    The blessings of His heaven
No ear may hear His coming
But in this world of sin
Where meek souls will receive him still
    The dear Christ enters in

    O holy child of Bethlehem
    Descend to us, we pray
Cast out our sin and enter in
    Be born to us today
    We hear the Christmas angels
    The great glad tidings tell
O come to us, abide with us
    Our Lord Emmanuel

  13. The angel Gabriel

The angel Gabriel from heaven came
With wings as drifted snow, his eyes as flame
All hail said he thou lowly maiden Mary
    Most highly favoured lady. Gloria!

For known a blessed mother thou shalt be
All generations laud and honour thee
Thy son shall be Emmanuel, by seers foretold
    Most highly favoured lady. Gloria!

Then gentle Mary meekly bowed her head
To me be as it pleaseth God she said
My soul shall laud and magnify his holy name
    Most highly favoured lady. Gloria!

Of her, Emmanuel, the Christ, was born
In Bethlehem all on a Christmas morn
And Christian folk throughout the world will ever say
    Most highly favoured lady. Gloria!

  14. Poor little Jesus

    O, poor little Jesus
This world gonna break your heart
There’ll be no place to lay your head, my Lord
    O, poor little Jesus

    O, Mary the mother
O, Mary, she bow down and cry
For there’s no place to lay his head, my Lord
    O, poor little Jesus

Come down, all you holy angels
Sing round him with your golden harps
For some day he will die to save this world
    O, poor little Jesus

  15. Gaudete

    Gaudete, gaudete christus est natus
    Ex Maria Virginae, gaudete

Tempus ad est gratiae, hoc quod optabamus
    Carmina latitiae, devote redamus

Ergo nostra contio, psallat iam in lustro
    Benedicat Domino sallus regi nostro

  16. Silent night

    Silent night, holy night
All is calm all is bright
Round yon virgin mother and child
Holy infant so tender and mild
    Sleep in heavenly peace

    Silent night, holy night
    Shepherds quake at the sight
    Glories stream from heaven afar
    Heavenly hosts sing ‘Alleluia’
    Christ the Saviour is born

    Silent night Holy night
Son of God, love’s pure light
Radiant beams from thy holy face
with the dawn of redeeming grace
    Jesus Lord at thy birth

  17. Do you hear what I hear?

Said the night wind to the little lamb
Do you see what I see?
Way up in the sky little lamb
Do you see what I see?
A star, a star dancing in the night
With a tail as big as a kite

Said the little lamb to the shepherd boy
Do you hear what I hear?
Ringing through the sky shepherd boy
Do you hear what I hear?
A song, a song high above the tree
with a voice as big as the sea

Said the shepherd boy to the mighty king
Do you know what I know?
In your palace warm mighty king
Do you know what I know?
A child, a child shivers in the cold
Let us bring him silver and gold

Said the king to the people everywhere
    Listen to what I say
    Pray for peace people everywhere
    Listen to what I say
The child, the child sleeping in the night
He will bring us goodness and light
